A small, peer-led rope community in Cardiff, built on consent, care, and craft. We love rope that’s skilful and beautiful to watch, and we learn it together.
Membership is by application, and sessions are for members.

About the practice
Kinbaku (緊縛) means “tight binding”: rope as an intimate, often erotic exchange between the person tying and the person being tied, where what it feels like matters more than how it looks.
Shibari (縛り) simply means “tying”. Outside Japan it has become the everyday word for rope bondage, and often for its technical and aesthetic side: the craft of the ties themselves.
At its heart it is a collaborative practice built on consent, care, and trust. People come for many reasons: to explore craft and aesthetics, deepen partnered connection, or learn a mindful, body-led practice.
The venue

Oz has been practising shibari for several years with a devotion to learning and sharing openly. A photographer, he comes to rope not for its aesthetics but for what it is as a practice — connective, intense, and grounded in presence. He founded Clwb Nawa to build a space rooted in collaborative learning and genuine connection. ozthorn.co.uk

Red (a.k.a. The Siren) is a professional dominatrix and founder of The Nest, Cardiff's BDSM studio. Her rope practice blends technical foundations with a focus on connection, communication, and psychological depth. She co-hosts Clwb Nawa and brings that same attention to genuine exchange into every session.
Our community
We're committed to creating a space where trans+, queer, and gender-diverse people feel genuinely welcome, safe, and able to belong.
"Clwb" is Welsh for "club" and "Nawa" is Japanese for "rope" — so Clwb Nawa is "Rope Club", reflecting our focus on shibari and kinbaku while celebrating our Welsh home.

We aim to create a safe and comfortable environment for all participants. Reviewing applications lets us get to know people before they join, manage the dynamics of the group, and make sure everyone feels safe and welcome.
Our jams are for people with some rope experience. If you’re newer to rope, our Fundamentals sessions are a good place to start. We welcome all gender identities, orientations, bodies, and backgrounds.
A rope jam is an informal, unstructured get-together. There’s no plan for the evening: people tie, chat and swap ideas at their own pace. Communal rope is there to use.
